Abhay Singh Chautala

Khel Ratna Shri Abhay Singh Chautala Ji, born on February 14, 1963 is the younger son of Chaudhary Om Prakash Chautala and Shrimati Sneh Lata.
He has been actively associated with politics since his student days but jumped right in only after his B.A. studies. He started his political career by contesting an election for the membership of his village Panchayat and served as Up-Sarpanch of the Chautala village Panchayat for one term. He then went on to contest elections from the Rori Assembly Constituency held in the year 2000 and won the seat by a record number of votes.
He forcefully raised issues pertaining to the development needs of his constituency as a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly. He served the people of his constituency by opening new educational institutions, building roads, bridges, primary health centres and also provided other basic facilities to better the living conditions of his people. When he represented Rori constituency in the Haryana assembly, he successfully pleaded to open an engineering college named Jananayak Chaudhary Devi Lal Memorial College at Panniwala Mota.
He believes that it is the primary duty of our society and our government to provide educational facilities to girls so that they can be empowered in the real sense of the word. To meet this end, he has opened Shrimati Haraki Devi Memorial College for Women where poor but meritorious girls are provided free boarding, lodging and fee concessions. Free transportation is also provided to those students who live in villages nearby. Since he evinces a keen interest in the development of education in rural areas, members of the society that runs Gandhi Gramothan Vidyapith, Sangria approached him with a request to lend his helping hand in overcoming the economic crisis being faced by it. He agreed and worked as its president for about a dozen years. The said society now has a surplus of funds. Abhay Singh also facilitated the opening of several job oriented and professional courses to meet the fast emerging scenario of globalisation.
He was elected as an MLA from Darba Kalan in the by-elections held in the year 2000. In early 2005, he turned back to grass-root-level politics and joined the election fray for the membership of Zila Parishad. He was elected President of the Zila Parishad, Sirsa in 2005 and is presently holding this assignment with distinction. He also won a by-election from Ellanabad Constituency for the Haryana Assembly in 2009. He entered the Haryana Vidhan Sabha for the second time as a custodian of the voice of the common people in general and the youth of the state in particular. He took great interest in the promotion of sports and games and as an MLA, pushed the idea of popularising and promoting sports in the rural areas in general and among girls of Haryana in particular. As a result of his persistent efforts, the government of Haryana adopted a new Sports Policy aimed at popularising sports and games, opening rural stadiums in various parts of the state and increasing diet allowance of sportspersons. The government also reserved a percentage of seats in educational institutions for them and offered jobs in addition to the handsome incentives and cash prizes they received after winning medals at various national and international competitions. In recognition of his services to the cause, he was elected president of Haryana Olympic Association and the Vice President of the Indian Olympic Association.
In addition, he is a no-nonsense youth leader who believes in hard and result-oriented work. He is a tireless worker and never shows signs of fatigue even though, at times, he devotes days and nights towards hectic political activities. He does not hesitate to call a spade a spade. He loses no time in identifying flattery as he does not like sycophancy of any sort and does not hesitate snubbing such elements publicly. He believes in doing his work in a thorough manner and always remains busy in furthering the cause of INLD.
He is a worker among the leaders and a leader among the party workers and does not hold any post in the party organisation as such. Over the years, he has emerged as a youth leader with mass appeal.
